Gavin developed an interest in the lighting industry whilst studying at school. He first started working in theatre in 1989 as a trainee electrician at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley. After training for a year, Gavin toured around the UK and USA for one year before returning to the Churchill Theatre firstly as Assistant Electrician, and then moving up to Deputy Chief Electrician. Within that time Gavin worked on over 100 new productions. Gavin left in 1995 and now works as a freelance Lighting Designer/ Production Manager. Gavin's lighting design credits include: Dance 123, Dance Crazy, Half a Sixpence, Oliver, Brigadoon (Churchill Theatre), Inside the Firm (Edinburgh Festival), Hot Shoe Shuffle (UK tour), Tap Dogs (UK, European and Asian tours), Tap Dogs (USA tour), Kat and the Kings (Associate Lighting Designer - UK tour) Kat and the Kings (Frankfurt), Circus Days, Circus Nights (Channel 4 , ICA, London) Jack and the Beanstalk (Richmond Theatre), Gumboots (Grahamstown Festival, South Africa, Edinburgh Festival, UK tour, West End season and USA tour) Kat and the Kings (Vienna), Kat and the Kings (European tour). Gavin lives with his wife Joanna and their two children Abigail and Jessica.
