Fana was born in Diepkloof, Soweto and joined the Thabisong
Youth Club at the age of 10 years. He began performing
in the streets of Johannesburg with the group Mayibuye
Africa. He was encouraged to audition for Gumboots by
a member of the Rishile Gumboots Dancers, and that was
the beginning of his career with the Gumboots Company.
